Govt allocates Tk 20.2m to rehabilitate flood-affected farmers in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Aug 25 (UNB): The government has allocated Tk 20.2 million (2.02 crore) as agricultural assistance to rehabilitate the flood-affected farmers of the district.
Under the post-flood rehabilitation programme, fertiliser and seeds of different crops, including boro, wheat, maize, lentil and vegetable, will be purchased and distributed among 18,750 small and marginal farmers of the district at free of cost.
Distribution of seeds will be started in September, which will continue until December.
Besides, local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has prepared seedbed of aman on 15 acres of land of Regional Agricultural Research Centre.
Seeds, to be produced on the seedbed, will be distributed among 900 small and marginal farmers to cultivate 300 acres.
Official sources said the recent flood has damaged standing crops on 10,413 hectares of land of the district incurring loss of Tk 383.0 million.
