Govt allocates Tk 26.3m for rawhide preservation

Authorities asked to submit expenditure reports by June 21

FE REPORT | May 12, 2026 00:00:00

The government has allocated Tk 26.3 million for 64 districts to support proper preservation and management of sacrificial rawhides during Eid-ul-Azha. The Ministry of Commerce issued an order on May 7 in this regard.

The initiative aims to ensure proper slaughtering of sacrificial animals, preservation of rawhides and free distribution of salt as part of the government's broader strategy to manage the huge volume of hides generated during the Eid festival.

According to the order, the ministry has distributed the funds among 495 upazilas across the country's 64 districts. The allocation has been made from the "unexpected expenditure" budget of the Finance Division for fiscal year 2025-26.

Under the distribution, each district headquarters (sadar upazila) will receive Tk 75,000, while the remaining 431 upazilas will get Tk 50,000 each.

The ministry said the funds must be used solely for organising training sessions related to rawhide preservation and management, and cannot be diverted for any other purpose.

Local authorities concerned will be held accountable for any financial irregularities. The ministry has also instructed authorities to submit a statement of expenditures by June 21.
