Govt plans nat'l data bank to make Dhaka a modern city

The government will prepare a special plan and national data bank aiming to make Dhaka a modern and liveable city.
Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD and Co-operatives) Minister Md Tazul Islam said this on Sunday in the capital.
While discussing on Dhaka city Detailed Area Plan (DAP) with the representatives of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) at the conference room of the ministry, Mr Islam mentioned, "The national data bank and special plan will work as a guideline that will be prepared upon recommendations of the urban planners and architects."
He declared that final decision will be taken after discussions with the stakeholders, and upon completion of impact assessment.
The minister assured that he would soon sit with the urban planners to discuss the issue.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts and active participation of architects, urban planners, government officials and public representatives for implementing the DAP.
Tazul Islam suggested strengthening the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhya or RAJUK.
Additional Secretary of Local Government Division Dipak Chakraborty, Chairman of RAJUK Md Sayeed Noor Alam and President of IAB Jalal Ahmed were present, among others.
