FE REPORT

The government has sought US assistance in cleaning up the Buriganga and mapping the major sources of its pollution to revive the river's old look and rich biodiversity.

Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that Bangladesh needed US assistance in this regard and underlined the importance of joint efforts in wildlife conservation to protect Bangladesh's rich biodiversity.

The environment adviser said this when US High Commission Charge d'Affaires Helen LaFave met with her at her office in Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, "Our government is taking action-oriented steps, rather than merely developing action plans."

"We aim to make environmental governance more people-centric and involve students in raising awareness about pollution control. We are working to bridge the gap between public expectations and authorities' actions," she added.

Charge d'Affaires LaFave expressed her support for Bangladesh's environmental initiatives, stating, the United States is committed to working together with Bangladesh on environment and climate-related actions.

This collaboration will focus on addressing pollution, protecting wildlife, and taking collective steps towards a sustainable future.

Secretary, additional secretary of the ministry and officials of American Embassy and USAID were also present on this occasion.
