FE REPORT | February 26, 2026 00:00:00

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Wednesday said the government has launched several initiatives to relieve city dwellers from the nuisance of mosquitoes.

He made the remarks while inspecting the mosquito extermination programme run by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and assessing the effectiveness of the drugs being used.

The minister said his ministry has been prioritising mosquito control since taking office. Several samples of imported drugs have been collected, and their effectiveness will be tested promptly.

"Several samples of imported drugs have been taken. Their effectiveness will be tested as soon as possible. If the drugs are not effective, alternative measures will be taken." Expressing hope that the drugs will prove effective, he added, "City dwellers are suffering from mosquito-related problems. Taking this issue seriously, the extermination programme is being given utmost importance."

The minister also called on both the government and citizens to support the programme and urged residents to monitor and clean areas in their homes where water collects.
