Govt to install 3G-network at UZs, growth centres

Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, also in-charge of Post, Telecommunications and ICT Ministry in Parliament, Obaidul Quader said Sunday the government undertook a project proposal to install 3G (Third Generation) network at upazilas and growth centres across the country by 2-3 years to increase 3G subscribers, reports BSS.

"The government has already introduced 3G services in all divisional cities and district towns before the stipulated period of the 3G licence holders," he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Abul Kalam in the House.

Mr Quader said the 3G licence holders of mobile phone operator would provide 3G services across the country within 36 months as per their terms and conditions of the licences.

He said currently 10,798,000 subscribers until November 2014 are getting 3G services, adding, "The government has a plan to install 1,562 NodeB having 2G technology facility for increasing 3G-mobile capacity and high speed network for 1.72 million subscribers in all divisional and district towns."
