Govt to mobilise $15b for climate action

The government has expressed its intent to raise $15 billion over the next five years for climate action with an eye to building a resilient and climate-smart Bangladesh.
Environment, forests and climate change minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said his ministry would craft a concrete implementation plan following the 'Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan' and a 'Five-year Action Plan'.
Each activity would be meticulously prioritised and harmonised to ensure maximum impacts, he added.
Mr Saber said this while exchanging views with a delegation of Climate Parliament and Bloomberg Foundation, led by 'Climate Parliament' chairman Tanvir Shakil Joy MP, at the secretariat office on Tuesday.
"Increased use of renewable energy is our priority," the minister told the delegation.
"We'll harness the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology but with a Bangladeshi twist. Solutions will be relevant, tailored to our unique needs and landscape," he continued.
"Suggestions will be welcomed in this regard," Mr Saber said.
The delegation shared insights and initiatives from different regions, highlighting the importance of a unified approach to combat climate change.
Both parties discussed potential collaborations, including knowledge exchange, joint initiatives, and policy implementations aimed at achieving shared environmental goals.
Mr Saber affirmed his ministry's dedication to working closely with partners, emphasising the need for innovative solutions to address the ever-growing challenges posed by climate change.
The discussions centred on collaborative efforts to address pressing climate issues and foster sustainable environmental practices.
