Grameenphone (GP) will provide financial assistance to Thenghamara Mohila Shobuj Shongha (TMSS) to set up a full-fledged blood bank at Rafatullah Community Hospital (RCH) in Bogra, a health programme of TMSS.
The GP authorities signed a corporate social responsibility (CSR) agreement with TMSS in this connection at a city hotel Wednesday.
GP chief executive officer (CEO) Erik Aas and TMSS executive director Hosne Ara Begum signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.
Health Adviser ASM Matiur Rahman attended the function as the chief guest while GP director of new business division Kaif HS Muyeed and GP head of Rajshahi region Emon Kalyan Dutta were present as special guests.
Hosne Ara said the RCH is providing free medical support to hundreds of poor people in the region despite limited resources and fund constraints. She, however, said the surgery department of the hospital would take a complete shape with establishment of the blood bank by GP.
She said TMSS works in six divisions and 63 districts covering 234 upazilas across the country to ensure family development through women's empowerment.
The organisation also runs 64 primary healthcare centres all over the country and a Medical Technology Institute alongside the RCH, which contains 50 beds for the poor patients and provides free treatment services for them as well.
