'Gunfights' leave two 'robbers' dead in Gazipur, Rangpur

Two suspected robbers were killed in reported gunfights in Gazipur and Rangpur on Wednesday, reports UNB.
In Gazipur, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Patka in Sreepur upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.
The dead is Abdur Rab Hawladar (35) of Goshairhat upazila in Shariatpur district.
On a tip-off that a group of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive around 3:00 am, said Joynal Abedin, duty officer of Sreepur thana.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire to police. In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage of gunfight, Abdur Rab caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.
Later, he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident.
The deceased was wanted in 15 cases, said police.
In Rangpur, a suspected robber was killed and another injured in a 'gunfight' with police in Munshipara graveyard area of the city early Wednesday.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
A team of police conducted a drive following a tip-off that a gang of robbers was preparing for committing robbery, said Babul Miah, officer-in-charge of Kotwali thana.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them. In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back, triggering a gunfight.
