Habibur Rahman gets Chand Sultana literacy prize

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has decided to reward M Habibur Rahman, Director, Education Sector, Save the Children USA, by Chand Sultana Literacy prize 2006, for his contribution to developing non-formal education in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
He will be formally rewarded the prize on June 16, 2007. The prize includes Tk 30,000, a crest and a citation.
The prize given every year from 2001 by DAM in memory of late Chand Sultana, a renowned non-formal education material developer of DAM, to country's renowned literacy personnel and organisations for their innovative implementation and research on literacy, non-formal education, cancer, HIV/AIDS, etc.
M Habibur Rahman played an important role in popularising non-formal education in the country. He worked as a literacy specialist of RDRS, UNESCO, CAMPE, Action Aid and World Bank. He developed national curriculum and primers of non- formal adult and adolescent, published by Directorate of Non Formal Education (DNFE).
He was a member of National Education Commission 1997 to develop the national policy of pre-primary, primary, non-formal and adult education. He was the member of Taskforce of Non-formal Education of Bangladesh Open University.
