Halt in unusual house rent hike demanded

Bharatia Parishad, a platform of tenants, demanded government initiative Wednesday to stop the unusual hike of house rent in the capital, reports UNB.
The body formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the city to press home the demands.
Addressing the programme, leaders of the platform alleged that the house owners increase the house rent arbitrarily violating the Premises Rent Control Act 1991.
In the last five years, the house rent was raised by 80-100 per cent violating the rate fixed by the Dhaka City Corporations, they said.
Bharatia Parishad president Baharane Sultan Bahar, general secretary Zannat Fatema, Workers' Party Dhaka city Unit president Abul Hossain, advocate Mohiuddin Jewel, advocate Fazlul Haque Akand, workers' leader Lovely Yasmin, human rights activist Kormi Milon Mallik addressed the human chain.
