Hawkers demand rebuilding demolished newspaper stalls

Newspaper hawkers on Monday demanded reconstruction of the newspaper stalls demolished by the two city corporations in Dhaka.
Drawing attention of the mayors and officials of the city corporations, Dhaka Sangbadpatra Hawkers Bohumukhi Somobay Samity at its meeting in the city said some 30-40 out of the total 70-80 stalls set up in Dhaka by the city corporation have been demolished for development or expansion of the roads, said a press release.
Yet the association has been regularly paying the monthly rent for the stalls, according to the statement.
Recently, Dhaka South City Corporation has taken an initiative to demolish a stall adjacent to Nabab Sirajuddowla Park.
"We urge the city corporations to stop demolishing the stall and rebuild the demolished ones as soon as possible," the association said.
