HC bench judge feels embarrassed

August 15, 2014 00:00:00

The admissibility of a writ petition filed by an aggrieved dropout additional judge over his regularisation remained on tenterhooks as one of the judges of the High Court (HC) division bench felt embarrassed Thursday after hearing, reports UNB.

After the hearing Wednesday on the writ petition filed by dropout additional judge ABM Altaf Hossain, a vacation bench of HC comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice ATM Saifur Rahman fixed Thursday for order.

Emerging from the court Thursday, petitioner's counsel Salauddin Dolon told reporters that it was not immediately known which of the two judges felt embarrassed.

The relevant file along with records will now be sent to the Chief Justice (CJ) for order and the CJ will constitute a bench for its disposal, he said.

Dolon said the writ petition was filed seeking court direction for regularisation of his client's judicial service as the Chief Justice had earlier made 'recommendation' on it.

On June 13 in 2012, six persons, including the writ petitioner, were appointed as additional judges of the High Court for a period of two years.

The President gave the appointments in consultation with the Chief Justice.

On June 9 this year, five of the additional judges were regularised, returning ABM Altaf Hossain to the bar from the bench.
