The High Court denied bail on Wednesday to Nazmul Hossain alias Babu, accused of spreading rumour on social media over Padma Bridge construction, in a case filed under Digital Security Act.
But the court issued a rule upon the respondents to explain within four weeks as to why Nazmul Hossain should not be granted bail in the case.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Fatema Najib passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Nazmul.
Advocate Helal Uddin Molla appeared in the court on behalf of Nazmul while Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik stood for the state.
Police arrested Nazmul on July 25 from Narail for spreading 'Human head will be needed for construction of Padma Bridge' rumour on Facebook.
Earlier on the same day, a case had been lodged with the Narail Sadar Police Station under the Digital Security Act against 35 to 40 unnamed persons including Nazmul.
He was denied bail on August 19 from a trial court of Narail in the case. Then he filed appeal petition with the High Court against the trial court order.
