HC forms fresh probe body as previous report unsatisfactory

The High Court Tuesday formed a new five-member body to investigate the death of five-year-old Ayaan, as the previous inquiry report was deemed unsatisfactory.
Ayaan passed away last month during circumcision at the United Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
The committee is tasked with submitting a comprehensive report to the court within 30 days.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order after hearing of a writ petition filed in this regard. The HC also fixed March 20 for passing further order on the issue.
The new committee has been formed with Principal of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Professor Dr ABM Maksudul Alam, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University's (BSMMU) Professor Susankar Kumar Mondal, Dhaka University's teacher Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon, Dhaka Shishu Hospital's Professor Aminur Rashid and Assistant Professor of National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine Sathi Dastidar.
The court said that the inquiry report submitted by Directorate General of Health Services over the incident was not "satisfactory".
The writ petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer ABM Shahjahan Akanda Masum on January 9 seeking necessary directives.
Earlier on January 29, the HC bench expressed grave dissatisfaction at the probe report submitted by DGHS on Ayaan's death on January 7, terming the report "one kind of eyewash" and its recommendations as "ridiculous".
The court said that they (DGHS) filed such reports to avoid their responsibility. It questioned why did the doctors hasted for the operation even after knowing that baby Ayaan has asthma problem?
The court commented that the amount of medicine used during the circumcision of baby Ayaan, even heart bypass operation does not require so much medicine.
Ayaan, a nursery student at a private school in the capital, passed away following a circumcision procedure conducted at United Medical College Hospital in the capital's Badda area.
