HC issues rule on bail for 20 prisoners

The High Court (HC) issued a rule on Tuesday asking lower courts concerned to explain why it shall not grant bail to 20 people languishing in jail for more than a decade without trial, reports BSS.

Two division benches of HC issued the rule acting suo moto. The HC benches also ordered the jail authorities to produce 10 prisoners on February 23, five on February 26, and other five on February 28 before them with their case documents. Panel lawyer of Supreme Court Legal Aid Office (SCLAO) Syeda Sabina Ahmed Moli brought the sufferings of 10 such inmates in Sylhet and Khulna on Monday.
