HC issues rule on DU authority

March 17, 2015 00:00:00

The High Court (HC) issued a rule on Monday asking the authorities concerned to explain why the decision not to allow students to sit for the Dhaka University (DU) admission test for the second time would not be declared illegal, reports UNB.

An HC joint bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order upon hearing on a writ petition.

The court asked the DU Vice-Chancellor and its Examinations Controller and six others concerned to respond to the rule within two weeks.

On October 14, 2014, the DU authorities decided to allow only freshly passed HSC students to appear at its admission tests in a single year from the 2015-16 academic session, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants.

A total of 16 guardians, including Minara Begum, filed a writ petition with the High Court earlier in the day challenging the legality of the decision.
