HC orders probe into wrong treatment at city hospital

The High Court on Sunday ordered for an investigation into an allegation that wrong treatment at the Lab Aid Specialized Hospital in Dhaka damaged two kidneys of a patient, Md Yousuf Mazumder alias Shakil.
The DG of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has been asked to submit a report to the court within two months after conducting the investigation.
The High Court bench of Justice K M Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Yousuf Mazumder.
The court also issued a rule upon the respondents including the hospital authorities to explain in four weeks as to why they should not be directed to pay Tk 10 million to Yousuf Mazumder as compensation.
Lawyer Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Yousuf Mazumder.
Later Mr Aklas Uddin said, "Major General Prof Dr H R Harun, a consultant of Urology Department of the hospital's Dhanmondi Branch in Dhaka, gave a wrong treatment to my client, Yousuf Mazumder. Now his two kidneys are damaged, and he is in a death risk. In this situation we have filed the writ petition."
