HC rejects bail plea of three accused

The High Court (HC) Monday rejected the bail plea of three accused in journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case, reports UNB.
An HC division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order upon hearing the bail petitions filed by Bakul Mia, Rafiqul Islam and Kamrul Hasan, the three detained accused in the case.
The counsel for the accused, SM Masud Hossain Dolon, was present.
Meanwhile, investigation officer (IO) of the murder case submitted compliance report of the case in the court.
On February 5, HC bench of Justice Shawkat Hossain and Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam dropped the petitions seeking bail for the three accused from its cause list, saying it does not have jurisdiction to entertain the bail petition under Section 498 of the CrPC.
On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were hacked to death by unidentified people in their rented apartment in the city's Razabazar area.
