HC rejects plea seeking cancellation of MBBS, BDS admission tests

The High Court (HC) turned down a writ petition on Monday seeking its directive on the government to cancel the admission tests of MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) for the 2015-16 session over allegations of question paper leak, reports UNB.

An HC bench comprising Justice Najma Haider and Justice JM Dev Chowdhury passed the order after a hearing on the petition, filed by Advocate Eunus Ali Akond earlier on Sunday.

The petitioner sought an HC rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the medical admission tests will not be cancelled. He also sought the suspension of the admission procedure until the settlement of the writ.

Earlier, the combined admission tests for the country's medical and dental colleges for the 2015-16 academic session were held across the country on September 18.

The results of MBBS and BDS admission tests were published on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police foiled a human-chain of admission-seekers on Monday who arranged the programme demanding cancellation of the results of this year's MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) admission tests over alleged leak of question papers.

A group of students under the banner of 'Students Seeking Admission in Public Medical Colleges' formed a human-chain in front of the National Press Club in the city at around 10:30.

Later, the agitated students locked into altercation with police, as the law-enforcers obstructed the human-chain and detained six admission seekers.

The detained students have been kept in police custody at Shahbag thana.

Mohammad Abdul Azim, officer-in-charge (OC) of the thana, confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the agitated admission-seekers along with some guardians have gathered again in the Shaheed Minar area.
