The High Court (HC) has upheld the lower court's death penalty verdict for Chandpur serial killer Rasu Kha in Parveen Akter murder case, reports UNB.

The bench of Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim and Justice KM Emrul Kayesh issued the ruling following an appeal petition hearing on Tuesday.

The court also commuted the death sentences of two other convicts, Zahirul Islam, Rasu Kha's nephew, and Yunus, to life imprisonment.

Deputy Attorney General Manirul Islam represented the state during the proceedings.

Rasu Kha, son of Manu Kha alias Abu Kha from Madna village in Sadar upazila of Chandpur district, was initially arrested on October 7, 2009, in connection with the theft of a mosque fan. During the investigation, police traced a mobile phone linked to Rasu, leading to the discovery of his involvement in the murder of a young girl.

Rasu was subsequently placed on remand and confessed under Section 164, revealing his role in the killings of 11 women after rape.
