The BCS Health Cadre Association on Tuesday demanded immediate removal of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General (DG) Dr A B M Khurshid Alam and other 'corrupt' officials.
They demanded it from a sit-in, organised in front of the DGHS office at Mohakhali in the capital.
They alleged that during the last 15 years, health cadres had not been appointed against vacant posts. Besides, illegal recruitments and appointments in the country's health sector took place on ad-hoc basis.
In their two-point demand, they said these illegal appointments should be stopped.
They also threatened to go for a tougher programme, if their demands are not met at the earliest.
The doctors claimed that there have been unlimited irregularities and corruption in the health department during the last 15 years. High officials were sold and they gave illegal appointments and promotions in exchange for money.
Umme Tania Nasrin, member secretary of BCS Health Cadre Association, said, "So far, we demonstrated for realising six demands. But now, we have only two demands, including canceling illegal service of the ad-hoc officials. We also demand removal of the DG Health and all other corrupt officials."
"Thousands of illegal promotions and about five hundred illegal appointments have taken place. Such irregularities and corruption in the health department have reached an extreme level," she added.
