Heavy downpour paralyses normal life in Barisal region

BARISAL, Sept 9 (UNB): Heavy downpour for the last three days in Barisal region paralysed normal life and created uncertainty in agriculture, fishing and communication sectors.
Aman paddy on vast tracts of land went under water due to the torrential rains. Besides, harvesting of Aus paddy is also being hampered.
Officials of local meteorological department said they recorded 600mm rain in last three days in the region. Weathermen said that the ongoing stormy weather might continue for three more days.
Sources said rivers and the sea became turbulent due to influence of depressions forcing the fishermen to stay at home abstaining from fishing. Major rivers of the region started swelling again.
Communications, especially river and coastal transportation in 30 internal and five coastal routes of the region remained disrupted due to the rough weather.
