Heavy rain in the last couple of days has caused water congestion in different city areas, disrupting movement of vehicles and commuters.
Most of markets and makeshift shops at footpaths in different areas of the capital could not open till Friday afternoon due to incessant rains.
Rain waters, mingled with throw-away wastes, forced many city-dwellers to confine themselves in their respective houses.
Muslim devotees went to mosques wading through rain water to offer Juma prayers.
Malibagh, Mouchak, Demra, Moghbazar, Rajarabagh, Mirpur, Agargaon, Sheorapara, Badda, Khilkhet, Kuril, Uttara, Khilgaon, Basabo, Shantinagar, Kamalapur, New Market, Jigatala, Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Hazaribagh, Jatrabari, Dolaipar and Shanirakhra areas went under knee-deep to waist-deep waters. Rain waters entered many houses in low-lying areas of the capital.
"We could not move smoothly due to water logging caused by rains in the capital", Afzal Khan (44), a private service holder, told the FE at Shantinagar area on Friday morning.
City-dwellers urged the city corporation authorities to solve the water stagnation problem immediately.
The Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA) and the city corporations said they have been trying to stop water-logging but without any result.
