Heavy rainfall triggers waterlogging in Dhaka

Heavy rainfall triggered severe waterlogging and significant traffic congestion in different parts of the capital Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
The affected areas include Jatrabari, Kamalapur, Gulistan, Shantinagar, Malibagh, Mogbazar, Kathalbagan and Kazipara.
Besides, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued alerts forecasting light to moderate thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, for the Dhaka division.
The temperature is hovering around 29°C with high humidity levels following the afternoon downpour.
The BMD has warned that rainfall is likely to increase across the country over the next five days as the monsoon remains active.
River ports in Dhaka and surrounding regions were advised to hoist local cautionary signal number one due to wind speeds reaching 45-60 km/h.
Heavy showers, particularly an intense downpour around 3:00pm, overwhelmed the city's drainage systems, turning key roads into waterlogged streams.
Vehicles remained stuck for hours on main roads, including stretches near Kazipara Metro Station leading to difficult conditions for office-goers and weekend pedestrians.
