Henolux owners lured Anis into investment, says RAB

FE REPORT | July 07, 2022 00:00:00

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said on Wednesday Managing Director of Henolux Group Md Nurul Amin and his wife Fatema Amin, also director of the company, lured businessman Gazi Anis to invest a huge amount of money in their company.

Gazi Anisur Rahman, who set himself on fire in front of the National Press Club in the city on July 4 and later succumbed to his burn injuries the following day, was supposed to get Tk 30 million from the couple, they said.

Later, the members of the elite force arrested the couple from Uttara area in the capital on Tuesday on charge of instigating him to suicide.

Director (media and legal wing) of RAB commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the information at a press briefing held at its Karwan Bazar office.

He said the arrestees had confessed that financial transactions were done between Gazi Anis and the couple.

The couple claimed that they had paid a total of Tk 7.6 million (by cheque and in cash) to Gazi Anis, he added.

But the couple got into a dispute with Gazi Anis about claims of Tk 30 million that included profits and invested money altogether.

The RAB official further said Gazi Anis tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire on July 4. Later, he was rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the city with 90 per cent body burnt where he succumbed to his injuries on July 5.

After the incident, the official said, the brother of the businessman filed a case against the couple with Shahbagh Police Station for their alleged involvement in instigating Gazi Anis to take his own life.

Mr Moin said Gazi Anis invested over Tk 12 million in the company (Henolux Group).

The victim invested money in the company after taking loans from his friends and relatives. But there was no written document regarding the money invested by Gazi Anis in the company, he said.

Anis had also filed two cases with a court in Kushtia district after he had failed to get back his invested money.
