Hilsha research project proposal yet to be approved

BARISAL, Nov 5 (UNB): A Tk 160 million proposal submitted by the Fish Research Institute (FRI) for Hilsha research in Barisal region is yet to be approved.
The FRI and its Chandpur river centre sources said a five-year long project plan involving Tk 500 million was sent to the concerned ministry in 2004.
In a review meeting, the ministry reduced the cost of the research to Tk 150 million and sent it back to the research centre.
Then the institute finally revised the project to Tk 160 million and sent it to the ministry again for approval at the end of 2006, which is yet to be approved.
This research project proposal included monitoring migration and movement of Hilsha fish, data collection on Hilsha catching, water and weather examination, environment observation and water pollution, condition of the water current in Hilsha populated areas, grounds of breeding, nursing, laying eggs and developing and maturing Hilsha.
An 11-member team, led by Hilsha Research researcher of Chandpur river centre Dr Khan Kamaluddin Ahmed, had been engaged in field-level data collection and research since October 25, 2007.
