BARISAL, Apr 10 (BSS): The body of former city mayor and lawmaker Showkat Hossain Hiron reached here from Dhaka Thursday.
Barisal District Awami League President Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP, received the body flown to Bangabandhu Udyan by a special helicopter.
Then the body of Hiron, who was also the president of Barisal city Awami League, was taken to his residence where thousands of people gathered to have a glimpse of him.
A pall of gloom descended there as many of his followers were seen crying.
Hiron's wife Jebunnesa Afroz, son Sajid Hossain, daughter Roshni Hossain and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu accompanied the body.
The first namaz-e-janaza of Hiron was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka Wednesday.
