KHAGRACHHARI, Oct 9 (BSS): Helen Keller Inter-national (HKI) Bangladesh will improve the distribution of vitamin A capsule among the hard-to-reach children in the Chittagong Hill Tracts through community mobilisation project.
This three year project (2007-10) will be funded by Standard Chartered Bank and it is expected that every eligible child in the CHT will receive a vitamin A capsule on the national immunisation day.
Due to difficult terrain of the CHT, language and cultural diversity of the region about 30 per cent of the children who should receive vitamin A capsules are missed. These are the children who are at risk of increased ill-health, eventually going blind.
A district review meeting and launching of CHT-vitamin A capsule project was launched at the Parjatan Motel by the civil surgeon's office in the district headquarters Sunday.
Monindra Lal Tripura, chairman of the Hill Tracts Development Committee (HDC) attended the function as the chief guest while John Deidrick of HKI Asia Pacific deputy regional director and Chantell Witten, country director of HKI/Bangladesh were present as the special guests.
