House passes 3 bills for CHT dist councils

The Parliament on Sunday unanimously passed three separate bills for the three district councils of Chittagong Hill Tracts aiming to increase the number of members in the councils for bringing dynamism to serve people of the small ethnic groups in a better way, reports UNB.

The three bills are Rangamati Hill Tracts Zila Parisad (Amendment) Bill 2014; Bandarban Hill Tracts Zila Parisad (Amendment) Bill 2014; and Khagrachhari Hill Tracts Zila Parisad (Amendment) Bill 2014.

State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur U Shei Ching moved all the three bills in the House, which were passed by voice vote.

According to the newly passed bills, each district council would be formed with a chairman and 14 other members.

Another report adds: Some unscrupulous companies sell spurious drugs in the market, using packets designed like famous branded ones, the Health Minister told Parliament on Sunday.

Replying to a scripted question of M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), Mohammad Nasim said: "Yes, it is true that some unscrupulous organisations are selling fake drugs in the market using packets designed like those of famous branded ones."
