Housewife strangled by husband

SIRAJGANJ, Dec 26 (UNB): A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Kuralia village in Sadar upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Marufa Akter Nisha,20, daughter of Mahmud Alam, a resident of Subarnagati village in Raiganj upazila of the same district.

Quoting family members, police said Abdul Momin, son of late Ehsanul Haque of Kuralia village in Sadar upazila, had married Nisha nine months back.

Since after their marriage, Momin used to torture her to bring an amount of money as dowry from her parents.

Momin strangled Nisha following an altercation over the same issue at some time on Thursday night and then hanged the body with the ceiling of a room.

Later, he went into hiding.

Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy about 10:00 am on Friday.

Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident.

A case was filed in this connection.
