CHITTAGONG, Feb 7: A court in Chittagong granted bail to Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain after he surrendered before it on Tuesday in connection with a land-related case filed during the post-1/11 caretaker government.

The minister appeared before the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Shahe Noor in the morning.

The court granted his prayers as Engineer Mosharraf prayed for bail and sought exemption from appearance on the next date of hearing.

Fakhrul Anwar, another accused in the case, was also granted bail.

Court sources said Mr Mosharraf, a minister in the 1996-2001 tenure of the Awami League government, helped register a government-owned land in the name of owners of three-star hotel Golden Inn at a high price.

The land at Agrabad in the port city had earlier been leased to another businessman.

Former lawmaker from Fatikchhari Rafiqul Anwar was one of the accused in the case, who died several years back.  His younger brother Fakhrul Anwar was the third accused in the case.
