Huge bicycle accessories seized at Benapole

BENAPOLE (Jessore), Nov 7 (UNB): Customs officials and joint forces in a joint raid Tuesday seized a consignment of bicycle accessories here while the importers were trying to release the consignment evading import duty.
Customs sources said Khan Enterprise, a dealer of bicycle accessories of Dhaka, imported a consignment of 107 mts of accessories on October 29.
Being tipped off that the importer had imported the consignment concealing the actual quantity of the goods mentioned in the bills of lading submitted to the customs house, joint forces and customs officials seized the consignment in the morning.
Later, the team found some 125 tonnes of bicycle accessories worth about Tk 11.50 million (1.15 crore) in the consignment instead of 107 tonnes. Sources said the enterprise tried to evade tax worth about Tk 1.40 million of the excess accessories.
