Husband kills two wives

RANGPUR, July 11 (BSS): A husband killed his two wives following long-standing family feuds in Ruposhi Gachhuapara village of Khoragachh union under Mithapukur upazila in the district Thursday night, police said.

Police in cooperation with the locals arrested the killer husband Illias Mian (57) and recovered the dead bodies and sent those to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue Friday morning for autopsy.

Police said Illias Mian, a local rice trader, had long-standing feud with his two wives. He frequently used to engage in exchanging hot words with his wives.

Following the feud, Illias Mian chopped his sleeping first wife Momena Khatun, mother of two children, with an axe killing her on the spot at her bedroom Thursday night.

Hearing the screams of Momena Begum, second wife Maksuda Begum (40) rushed there and then Illias Miah also chopped her with the same axe to death.

Immediately after the killing, the neighbours caught Illias Mian and handed him over the Mithapukur thana police.

Process of filing a case in this connection was progressing, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur thana Rabiul Alam told the news agency.
