A committee has begun investigating allegations that a former prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) had demanded bribes in exchange for bail in a case of crimes against humanity related to the July Uprising, reports bdnews24.com.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam told reporters about the development at his office on Wednesday.

He is leading the five-member fact-finding panel formed on Tuesday to look into allegations of bribery against former prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder.

Aminul said: "A question has been raised before us, or an allegation has come, which we do not view lightly.

"Simultaneously, in case there's any other allegation in this tribunal, we've formed a committee under my leadership to uncover detailed information on all these issues."

Four of the members started the work as the fifth was absent due to illness.
