Increase internal resources to ease burden of foreign loan, says NBR chief

KURIGRAM, Aug 11 (UNB): Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Mohammad Abdul Majid called for increasing internal resources for reducing the burden of foreign loan.
"We all had liberated this country through an armed struggle, hence together we have to protect this country", said Mohammad Abdul Majid while speaking at a motivation meeting as the chief guest in the town hall here Sunday.
District revenue department and local administration jointly organised the meeting aimed at submission of income tax return through the participation of self-motivated taxpayers.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jalal Uddin chaired the meeting, which was also attended by tax officials and local businessmen.
Speaking on the occasion, NBR chairman said: "Each year we have to pay Tk 140 billion (14,000 crore) as interest of foreign loan." He called for enhancing the number of new taxpayers.
"Nothing would be achieved by planning sitting in the capital if we want to get rid of this situation. Pragmatic works should be done by incorporating the opinion of all across the country", he said.
A total of 76 new taxpayers from Sadar, Phulbari, Ulipur, Chilmari, Bhurungamari, Rajarhat and Nageshwari Upazilas handed over filled-up TIN forms to the NBR chairman at the meeting.
