BARISAL, Feb 9 (UNB): Different citizens' alliances in the district have expressed their resentments against the increase of passport fees.
Barisal regional passport office sources said that fees for issuing passport has been increased from Tk 5,000 to Tk 6,000 for emergency passport, from Tk 2,500 to Tk 3,000 and from Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,500 for urgent and ordinary passport respectively since January 22.
Those who had submitted applications but have not yet received passports also have to adjust increased fees by depositing rest of the increased money.
The increase was made as new passport book contained 64 pages which had earlier 48 pages, said a passport official.
Mintu Bose, secretary of Nagorik Parishad, Dr. Mizanur Rahman, member secretary of Nagorik Samaj, in this connection said the government was extracting money from public without giving any better and prompt service.
They demanded immediate withdrawal of increase of passport fees and end to harassment and delay in receiving passports.
