Independence, Nat'l Day observed in Ctg


CHATTOGRAM, Mar 27: The 49th Independence and National Day was observed through colourful programmes in the port city of Chattogram on Tuesday amid due solemnity and patriotic fervour.
Different political parties and socio-cultural organisations played floral wreaths at the memorials from the first hour of historical 26th March.
A large number of law enforcers, including members of police and Rapid Action Battalion, remained deployed at the Chattogram Central Shahid Minar on that day.
The police and RAB members on security duty surrounded the area from March 25 afternoon.
Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation A Z M Nasir Uddin, Secretary of Chattogram North District Awami League and Chairman of Chattogram Zila Parishad M A Salam, Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) and top government officials paid tributes to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the memorials in the port city.
Chattogram Press Club arranged a separate programme on this occasion.
Leaders of Chattogram Press Club and Chattogram Union of Journalists placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the press club premises.
Awami League, BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesher Shomaj Tantrik Dal, JSD, Bangladesh Students Union and Bangladesh Chhatra League were among the organisations that paid respects to the war heroes.
Hundreds of the political parties and socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the Central Shahid Minar from the early morning.
Besides, poets, cultural activists and professionals paid tributes to the war heroes.
