The Indian Coast Guard and Bangladesh Coast Gourd discussed matters regarding maritime safety and security of the Bay of Bengal at a bilateral meeting held in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
The west zone of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) hosted the regional and zonal commander-level meeting at its headquarters in Mongla, said a BCG press release.
Issues related to handover of the fishermen detained by the coast guards of the two countries and exchange of information to prevent terrorist activities along the borders were discussed at the meeting.
Besides, the meeting also agreed to extend cooperation in the field of upgrading skills of both sides through arranging training and curb environment pollution in the Bay of Bangal.
The meeting was organised in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the Coast Guards of the two countries in 2015, the release added.
BCG Deputy Director Mir Imdadul Haque and Indian Coast Guard Commander (East) Inspector General Rajan Bargotra were present at the meeting, among others.
