Indian clothes, Phensidyl seized, 10 arrested

JOYPURHAT, Aug 21 (UNB): RAB members in separate drives seized Indian smuggled clothes -- 1,030 pieces of three-piece dress, 980 pieces of sari -- and Phensidyl worth about Tk 24 lakh and arrested 10 people Sunday.
An official of RAB-5 here said they chased a truck from Joypurhat-Hili frontier and seized it in Naruli bus stand area of Bogra and recovered huge quantity of Indian three-piece and sari. They also arrested three people in this connection.
While returning to Joypurhat the elite force raided a capital bound bus at Matidali in Bogra town and recovered eight sacks of Indian sari and caught four smugglers.
Yet in another raid early Sunday, elite force members raided a maize laden capital bound truck at Puranapoil area here on Joypurhat-Hili road, recovered 283 bottles of phensidyl syrup and held three people. Another report from Khulna adds: Some 110 sacks of fertiliser were recovered from a truck at Palpara area of Dumuria upazila of the district on Sunday noon while those were being smuggled out to India.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers led by UNO M Shahjahan Ali raided the truck and seized the fertiliser.
They also arrested truck driver Sarwar Sheikh and helper Saidul from the spot, but the smugglers managed to escape the scene.
