India-Bangladesh Joint Border Conference has started at the state guest house in Agartala, reports bdnews24.com.
In the two-day conference both sides are expected to discuss wide range of bi-lateral issues including smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgent movement, narcotics, human trafficking and other matters relevant for better border management between the two neighbouring countries.
At the end of the first day's talk Tuesday both the sides expressed satisfaction and viewed that such talks helped in mutually sorting disputes at grass roots level through dialogue as well as helped in confidence building.
They viewed that such dialogue should take place more frequently.
"Most of the northeast Indian states share border with Bangladesh and we have seen over the years that small issues often crop up in the border districts that require local level interventions," said Abhishek Singh, DM of West Tripura district
Accordingly, these district-level meetings were planned at the behest of the governments of the two countries to "resolve local issues locally."
It was decided that such meetings should be held once in every six months, Singh added.
He said cross border crimes, drugs, smuggling, cattle lifting and other issues like integrated check post and how to have better import-export facilities and streamline the arrangements were discussed.
Issue related to joint patrolling and border pillar issues too were discussed.
