BRAHMANBARIA, Nov 12: The inter-city trains that run from Dhaka to Chittagong and Sylhet via Brahmanbaria is in the grip of a host of problems.
Mismanagement, poor sitting arrangement, irregular time schedule, dilapidated condition of tracks, poor electricity arrangement and corruption by the drivers, ticket checkers and station staff made the condition so miserable that people of the district are no more interested in travelling by trains.
The train does not maintain time schedule. The trains leave Kamalapur station at least thirty minutes to one hour late and reach their destinations about one or two hours behind schedule.
It is widely alleged that ticketless travellers, smugglers, beggars and thieves occupy compartments of the trains. The black marketeers travel in the trains with their contraband such as Indian saris and Phensidyl paying tolls to the drivers. They thus deprive the government of a huge amount in revenue.
The condition of the railway tracks are so deplorable that accidents may happen at any moment. The inter-city train passengers urged the concerned authorities to improve the tracks with modern equipment without any delay.
