Intl. Day against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking today

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will be observed tomorrow (Tuesday) in the country, as elsewhere around the globe, as part of the fight against the menace, reports UNB.
This year's theme for the day is: Do drugs control your life?
By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the UN General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free from drug abuse.
This resolution recommended further action with regard to the report and conclusions of the 1987 International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
On the occasion, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has urged people of all walks of life to join forces and devote special attention to drug addicts to enable them to take control of their lives, rather than allowing their lives to be controlled by drugs.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed issued separate messages, calling for strengthening the fight against drug abuse and trade.
