Int\\\'l Day of Forests today

International Day of Forests will be observed today (Saturday) across the country as elsewhere in the globe with the theme "Forests, Climate, Change", reports BSS.

To mark the day, the Ministry of Environment and Forests has chalked out weeklong programmes.

As part of the programmes, a discussion meeting will be held at the Ban Bhaban in city's Agargaon where Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, MP, will be present as chief guest, Chief Conservator of Forest M Yunus Ali told the news agency  Friday. Environment and Forests Secretary (In-charge) Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed will chair the meeting.

Besides, a photo exhibition is going on at the Ban Bhaban from March 18. Best photograph would receive the award today (Saturday) after the discussion meeting.

In addition, Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) has organised a roundtable meeting to create awareness to save the environment from vulnerability, said BFRI director Dr Shaheen Akhter.

The International Day of Forests, the 21st day of March, was established by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012.
