Int’l seminar on dev, governance held at DU

A daylong international seminar on development and governance experiences in China and Bangladesh was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday.

The Centre for China Studies of Dhaka University and the Centre for China Studies of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies co-hosted the event.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal presided over the inaugural session while Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen addressed it as the special guest.

Prof Kamal stressed the need for undertaking collaborative academic and research activities, sharing knowledge and exchanging information among regional and international experts to resolve social problems and establish global peace and harmony.

He hoped the DU Centre for China Studies would create a common platform for people of the two friendly countries to uphold values and knowledge.

Meanwhile, Mr Wen said China and Bangladesh were working together to maintain social stability, develop socio-economic condition and modernise the two countries. He emphasised enhancing cooperation and dialogue in the fields of education and research among scholars of the two friendly countries.

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka would provide all possible support and cooperation to this end, cited the envoy.
