Bangladesh will observe the International Day for Disaster Reduction 2014 on October 13 next with focus on older people, their needs and contribution to better planning of disaster risks in their communities.
The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has set the theme of this year's International Day for Disaster Reduction as 'Resilience is for life'.
The focus of the International Day for Disaster Reduction (13 October) is on older people, including their needs and what they contribute to better planning and understanding of disaster risks in their communities.
Bangladesh will lay special importance on the experience of older people who have passed a long time facing natural disasters. A roundtable discussion will be organised in this connection with participation of the experienced people and media personnel.
The ministry of disaster management and relief (MoDMR) will organise an inaugural programme and a discussion meeting at Osmani Memorial Hall where Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju will be present as the chief guest and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki as the special guest.
