IP cameras installed to deal with traffic jams

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandker said on Saturday internet protocol (IP) cameras have been installed at important strategic points on highways to reduce traffic jams as well as accidents across the country, reports UNB.

"Vehicular movement will remain under intensive surveillance of law enforcement agencies through the IP cameras on highways," he said.

The IGP was addressing the inauguration of the IP camera installation on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways at Kantchpur, Narayanganj.

Hasan Mahmud said it will be easy to reduce traffic congestions through the enhanced monitoring of the overall traffic movement on the highways with the use of the IP cameras.

Local member of parliament Selim Osman, deputy inspector general (Highway Range) Md Assaduzzaman Mia, deputy inspector general (Dhaka Range) SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, deputy inspector general (Operation) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, senior police officers were present at the function.

Earlier on Wednesday, the IGP inaugurated IP cameras installation programme at Chandra, Joydevpur intersection and Bypal crossing in Gazipur district.

Installations of IP cameras have already been completed on various roads and highways of Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Comilla and Tangail.
