Iranian container ship with cracked bottom brought back to Ctg

BAGERHAT, July 7 (UNB): Iranian container ship MV Mir Damad, which was about to sink with 17 crew on board on July 1 after cracks developed on its lower deck, was brought back to Chittagong port for repair Friday.
Nurul Kabir, assistant manager of BS agency of Chittagong, local agent of the ship, said the engine and the generator of the ship were damaged as water entered into the engine room when the ship was sinking.
"After removing the water from the ship and repairing its engine, the vessel was taken back to the Chittagong port for repair," he added.
The ship sailed from Chittagong port on June 28 for Chennai port of India with 91 empty containers on board.
MV Mir Damad began taking in water 60 nautical miles southeast off Hiron Point of Mongla seaport as cracks developed on its lower deck on July 1.
After complete repair of the ship, it will sail for Chennai port, sources said.
