Italian firms eye Bangladesh aviation projects

FE REPORT | June 23, 2026 00:00:00

Italian companies have expressed interest in supporting the modernisation of Bangladesh's aviation sector through the introduction of a state-of-the-art bird hazard management system at airports and the establishment of a specialised training academy for aviation technicians.

The proposals were discussed during a courtesy meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and Italian Ambassador in Dhaka Antonio Alessandro at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.

According to officials, the Ambassador conveyed the interest of The Edge Company in developing a Bird Control Management System (BCMS) for airports in Bangladesh.

The proposed system is designed to reduce the risk of bird strikes -- one of the major safety challenges faced by airports worldwide -- through the use of advanced technologies and management practices to monitor and control bird activity in airport operational areas.

Aviation experts say effective bird hazard management is critical for ensuring flight safety, protecting aircraft, minimising operational disruptions and reducing maintenance costs associated with bird strike incidents.

Ambassador Alessandro also informed the minister that Flyon Aero is interested in establishing an aviation training academy in Bangladesh.

The proposed academy would focus on strengthening the technical expertise and professional skills of Bangladeshi aviation technicians, helping to build a skilled workforce capable of meeting the growing demands of the country's aviation industry.

Both sides emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and Italy in aviation and other sectors.

The minister welcomed the proposals and reiterated Bangladesh's interest in working closely with Italy to support the development and modernisation of the country's aviation infrastructure and human resources.
