Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Monday accorded a reception to Prof. Osama Khan, who has recently been appointed the next vice chancellor (VC) and chief executive of the University of South Wales, UK, said a press release.

Prof. Khan -- who will assume his new role in May 2026 -- is an alumnus of IUB's School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE). He is also the first academic of Bangladeshi heritage to be appointed to the top leadership role at a public university in Europe.

The reception event was organised by the Career Guidance Placement and Alumni Relations (CGP&AR) Office of IUB.

Prof. Osama completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from IUB in 1999, graduating as Valedictorian with a double major in Finance and Economics. Currently, he is serving as the Deputy VC (academic) at Aston University, UK.

His academic qualifications include degrees from the University of Cambridge, Lancaster University, and the University of Surrey.

The reception event was attended by Didar A Husain, chairman, board of trustees, IUB; Dr. Husne Ara Ali, trustee; Prof. M. Tamim, VC; Prof. Daniel W. Lund, Pro VC; alongside members of the faculty and administration and a number of alumni.

In his speech, Prof. Khan said, "IUB is an elemental part of my journey, and most of my accomplishments are credited to IUB. It gave me higher education, first job, and amazing faculty."
